Daniel Kepl interviews Norwegian-born composer Ola Gjielo (Yay-lo) about his choral compositions, which have received wide critical acclaim. We talk about his musical roots, his training, and his musical ideals, on the eve of performances of four of his works by the Santa Barbara Choral Society on March 29 & 30 at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara. A shortened version of the interview with appear in Santa Barbara’s CASA Magazine on Friday, March 28. An interview with the young Canadian violin virtuoso Timothy Chooi, on the eve of his debut with the Santa Barbara Symphony Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16.

Daniel Kepl interviews the young Canadian virtuoso Timothy Chooi from a hotel stairwell in Austin, Texas, where he was competing in the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition. He will be playing the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor with the Santa Barbara Symphony, Nir Kabaretti conducting, on March 15 & 16 in Santa Barbara’s Granada Theatre.
