Watch my interview with Guy Veloz, son of the world’s greatest ballroom dance couple of the 30s & 40s, Veloz & Yolanda, and read my review of State Street Ballet’s October 22nd performance of choreographer William Soleau’s full-length ballet based on the Veloz’ extraordinary career

Daniel Kepl interviews Guy Veloz, son of America’s most famous ballroom and tango dancing couple of the 30s and 40s, Veloz and Yolanda. Guy speaks about his parent’s fascinating rise from rags to riches during the Great Depression, their various friends in and out of the business, including some of America’s most legendary gangsters of the period, and a time in American history that has nearly been forgotten. Choreographer William Soleau created a genre-breaking full-length ballet about Veloz and Yolanda titled An American Tango for State Street Ballet in Santa Barbara in 2012. The work is in the company’s repertory and was reprised on October 22nd. Click here to download a readable PDF of my review of that performance. Below the video interview with Guy Veloz watch and enjoy a slideshow of photographs from the October 22nd performance of An American Tango taken by David Bazemore.
